I am 30, female of course, I live in Belleville Il about 20 minutes away from Saint Louis Missouri. No kids, no hubby, but I am in a long term relationship and I am a deep rooted family girl (a daddy's girl really, I turn into a five year old EVERYTIME I am around my daddy!). My full time profession, well I am in the Air Force, but when I get off work and I come home and step into my scrap room...well that's when I really start trying to save the world!

My design strengths,
1. I finish what I start, I really do not have any projects that just sit.
2. i think out of the box, if you give me a box of items I would start by altering the box the goodies came in.
3. I draw inspiration from EVERYTHING!!! I carry a small notebook and when an idea hits I write it down.
4. I would say I have a shabby chic vintage style (Thank God, thats in right now)
5. I LOVE to inspire folks! My MOST favorite thing to create is MINI ALBUMS!!

Cupcake Stand Tutorial & Challenge

Materials and Supplies required:
- 3 Round Styrofoam Forms
- Glossy Accents
- Ribbon Spools
- Paint
- Border Punch
- Paper and embelishments of your choice

1) Measure your styrofoam pieces

2) Cut desired Paper according to Measurements (I used Flights Of Fancy By Prima).

3) Adhere paper to styrofoam pieces ( I adhered black paper on the bottom for a cleaner look)

4) Cut contrasting paper into 1 1/2 inch strips

and then punch the edge with a boarder punch of your choice and adhere to the sides of each paper covered round styrofoam piece (this will hide the edge)

5) Stack your ribbon spools to the desired height and glue together

6) Now Paint and adhere spools to the center of each covered round foam circle stacking your round styrofoam pieces in tiers

7) Embelish and fill with yummy cupcakes!!!

Hi there! I’m Amy and I reside in Virginia with my daughter, step son, and my superb honey do man. I am ever so addicted to altering things with paper and creating cards. At least I can admit it. But my family thinks it's insane. That's okay because I think my addiction is perfectly fine. I don't splurge on myself except with my paper crafts and then it's tough to decide with between paper or dinner for the family? Seriously, my paper is something I covet. Of course my family comes first but sometimes I wish they were as complacent as a piece of pattern paper. Definitely not as many needs or wants there. ;-) I started making cards as a child for family and friends. I always loved the beginning of the school year when I got new school supplies. Back then I would spend hours on a card. Still do today as well. I pour my heart and soul into my projects. Sometimes it’s hard to send the things I make off, but I always hope they will bring a smile to the person receiving. I have been very fortunate to have my work published in Paper Crafts, CARDS, Scrapbook and Cards Today, and several online magazines.

Whimsy Pocket Tutorial & Challenge

Recycling at its best! A fun and economical way to make a cute gift card, trinket, or note pocket.

Supplies :

Cardboard paper tube (paper towel or toilet tissue)

Adhesive

Scissors and trimmer or ruler

Pen

Clothespins

Small hole punch

1. Measure tube to 3.5 inches and mark with pen.

2. Flatten tube and cut with scissors on line.

3. Glue one end of tube and secure with clothespins.

4. Trim a 3.5 x 6 inch piece of pattern paper and glue around tube.

5. Decorate as desired. Punch holes on sides with punch and attach ribbon to hang.

I'm a Stay At Home Mom. I live in central Texas with my husband of 8 years and our kids, a son, 7, and daughter, 11. I retired from 17 years of government service to stay home and raise my children. I have been involved in arts and crafts since I was a child. I became involved in scrapbooking and mixed media about five years ago. I love papercrafts, altered arts and mixed media. I teach classes at local scrapbook stores, retreat centers and online on a variety of topics from basic scrapbooking to complex technique heavy altered art and mixed media projects. I also instruct students to use tools like Purple Cows Trimmers and Zutter Bind It All and DreamKuts. My scrappy style is eclectic! I have a special love of distressed items and ephemera.

Vintage Bottle Tutorial & Challenge

Have a special someone who appreciates vintage items? Like an idea for a quick, handmade gift? How about vintage glass containers? Here’s a little project combining old and new for a refreshing gift idea. Tools and Supplies : · A vintage glass container (preferably small) · Ephemera i.e. labels, tickets, sheet music · Small tag · Copper · Metal lettering kit · Vintage fabric or lace · Vintage buttons · Alcohol ink · Distress ink · Small cork 1) Clean out your container and dry thoroughly.

2) Create a label using ephemera and attach to front of container. 3) Distress tag with distress inks to taste.

4) Create a metal tag saying “buttons”, distress with alcohol inks and attach to tag front.

5) Fill vintage container with old or new buttons, cork to close, tie tag to container throat.

6) Give to someone special or keep for yourself!

Handmade Album Tutorial & Challenge

Tools and Supplies :
Corrugated Cardboards - 4 nos. of 6"x6"
Cardstocks - 3 nos. of 6"x10", 3 nos. of 6"x8"
Mists
Inks
Misting Stencils
Patterned Papers
Other Embellishments: Flowers, Ribbons, Tapes, Blings
Bind-It-All Zutter Machine
Binder Ring

Instructions:
1) Mist and ink one side of the 4 corrugated cardboards. Let the colours mix by misting with water.

2) Once dry, use a misting stencil to create a pattern on the corrugated cardboard.

3) Adhere PP to the other side of the corrugated board.

4) Use the misting template and mist the pattern over the PP.

Do the same for the other 3 pages.

5) Bind the pages together using the Zutter tool.

6) 6"x10" - Create a border of 1" at the top and the 2 sides. Score 0.5" on the 2 sides of the cardstock. Fold the border into half.

6"x8" - Create a border of 1.5" at the top and the 2 sides. Score 0.5" on the 2 sides of the cardstock. Fold the border into half.
a) Adhere the 2 cardstocks together only at the 0.5" on the 2 sides of the cardstock. The 6"x8" should be in front of the 6"x10" cardstock.

7) Adhere the border cardstocks to the album pages as shown in the photo below.

8) The base of the album is now completed! Go ahead and embellish the pages.

Gift House Tutorial & Challenge

Supplies :
Heavy weight pattern papers - a 12"x5" piece (house)
two 4"x4" pieces (roof and pot holder)
Chipboard alphas

Instructions:
House
1. Copy this house template and cut out. You can use the 0.5" label edge of the paper as the glue tab.

2. Crease along the foldlines and glue the tab to form the house.

3. Fold a 4"x4" paper in half for the roof - add some trim to the long edges if you like.

Plant Holder
1. Copy this holder template for a 2" size pot.

2. Cut the along diagonal lines inside the circle.

3. Push the diagonal tabs away to open up the circle.

4. Crease along all other foldlines to form the holder. Glue the corners to secure.

5. Insert the pot and mark the pot rim line on the tabs

6. Cut the tops of tabs off along the marked rim lines.

7. Insert into the bottom of the house and mark the space between the piers.

8. Cut out the marked space between the piers

9. Your project is complete ready to be presented as a gift!

How's the 1st day of 2011?? First of all, I'd like to wish everyone a Happy New Year!! =)

Since December 2007 where our 1st challenge and tutorial were up, many have supported us by participating in our challenges and as sponsors for our RAKs for the participants. All of us at Artz de Scrap are grateful for all the support we get from scrappers. Thank you so much!! Please do continue to support us!

An announcement to make this beginning of 2011...
We shall be combining the monthly challenge & tutorial as one. Hence, the inspirational scrapper's work will inspire the challenge for the month.

Here's how it works:
- Inspirational Scrapper and Tutorial will be featured on the 15th of the month.
- Scrappers are to use the tutorial to create a project for the challenge. Feel free to interpret the tutorial as you like to come up with your very own project.
- Challenge will run from 15th of the month to 13th of the next month.

Chunky Christmas Block Tutorial

Looking for a fun, homespun holiday project? Maybe something involving the kids, quick and easy, using a minimum amount of materials and supplies? Well here it is.

Supplies needed:
- A used 2x4 (no more than 6-10 inches long)
- Ranger Crackle Paint, Distress Ink, Liquid Pearls, Stickles
- A holiday or Christmas image or festive patterned paper (one that will fit on the wide side of your 2x4)
- Several small embellishments of your choice
- Glue

Instructions:
- Make sure the 2x4 is cleaned up, free of dirt, etc. Paint with crackle paint. Let dry.
- Highlight crackle effect with distress ink.
- Adhere image or paper to one (wide) side of 2x4.
- Decorate with liquid pearls, stickles, distress inks, etc.
- Add embellishments.
- Display!

I have reached that age, where they say life begins at 40, which I think is really true. Married to my loving and supportive husband Murray for almost 9 years. We have 2 beautiful girls Amy (6 years) and Chloe (2 years), they are my inspiration to scrapbook. I am born and bred in Durban, South Africa, a little city along the coastline. I had always been a keen card-maker, until my sister-in-law introduced me to the world of Scrapbooking in October 2002. I went for my first class at a local craft shop in November 2001 and you could say I had been bitten by the Scrappin Bug and am now hooked! When my husband and I had started to think about starting a family, the birth of my daughter motivated me to create a legacy to leave behind for her one day. As well as it being a hobby that I can actually lose myself in! My style….. well I don’t know that I have one, as my layouts range from simple to shabby to heritage and I am not afraid of colour or stretching my comfort zone. I try to keep as much focus on the photos - sometimes my style changes with the wind but I guess that is creativity for you. My most comfortable size is 12 x 12 although I also enjoy putting mini albums together and even venture off the page to home decor often. Some of my favourite product lines are American Craft, Heidi Swapp, Basic Grey, Pink Paislee, Making Memories, Fancy Pants and My Minds Eye. My weakness is that I try to be too perfect and my strength would be focusing on the photos.

Photo Tree Tutorial

Material / Supplies needed:
Making Memories Metal Rimmed Circle Tags
Stickles Glitter
Ribbons
Jump rings

Instructions:
1. Get all your supplies together and the photos you want to put into the little metal rimmed circles to create frames.

2. Punch out all your photos to fit into the metal rim circles.

3. Add Stickles glitter to the edge of the metal circle rims, to change the colour and give it some glitz.

4. Once the glitter is dry, pop your punches out photos into the rims and flatten them in your Tag maker. Punch a hole in the top to add jump rings, so as to be able to hang it on the tree.

5. Added some ribbon bows here and there on the tree, to soften it up a bit, then add the bling hanging jewels.

6. Close-up of all the metal rim circle photos hanging on the tree.

7. Your project is complete and fit to be displayed anywhere in your home during the festive season.

I am a mother to my princess and wife to my chocolate drop. I'm very much into art journalling and in love with collage and mixed media. I've been very passionate about art since I was in secondary school. I guess my art teacher 'inspired' me ever since. When I resigned from my last job to become a SAHM, my desire to create came back to me again and that's where my creative journey began. I learned a lot from the generous artists from the You Tube community. Currently, I'm addicted to drawing faces and whimsical girls. Thank you Felicia for giving me this opportinity to share with you ladies my altered tin. Hope you are inspired, and have fun creating!

Altered Tin Tutorial

Material / Supplies needed:
1. Serviettes with patterns
2. Mod Podge (matte)
3. Fabric Glue
4. Paint brush (flat)
5. Gesso
6. Scissors
7. Laces
8. Clear stamps
9. Acrylic paint

Instructions:
1. Coat tin with gesso.

2. Make sure gesso is totally dry before second coat.

3. Coat 3 times.

4. Stamp on your primed tin.

5. Spread the mod podge evenly on the tin.

6. Peel off the very first layer of the serviette.

7. Slowly collage your serviette on the tin making sure to eliminate air bubbles.

8. Put aside to dry.

9. Paint the edges of the tin with acrylic paint.
-put aside to dry
-stamp randomly on the collaged tin (optional)

10. Glue the edges of your tin with a strong glue and adhere the laces.

11. Ta daaaa....

12. A container for your paintbrush...perhaps!

Tin Can ATC Tutorial

Want to play with metal, but don’t want to invest in metal to work with? Recycle a tin can instead! Here’s what you’ll need to start playing with metal and make your own ATC (altered trading card).

Tools used:
Scissors
Cuttlebug (or similar) machine
Embossing folder

Materials / Supplies needed:
Tin Can
Light cardboard, chipboard
Vintage dictionary page
Grungeboard
Word tab
Metal flowers
Martha Stewart Glitter
Tombo Mono Glue
Helmar 450 Adhesive
Sand paper
Ranger crackle paint
Ranger alcohol inks (rust, caramel, pesto)
Ranger distress inks (Worn Lipstick, Fired Brick, Vintage Photo)
Miscellaneous Ephemera: I used….
Clip art
Ticket stub
Decorative head pin
Vintage button

Instructions:
1. Wash out an empty can. Cut off top and bottom. Cut down one side. Flatten out, cut out to desired size. Emboss.

2. Color embossed metal with various alcohol inks. Set aside and let dry.

3. Cut chipboard to ATC size: 2 ½ X 3 ½ inches. Paint with crackle paint. Set aside and let dry.

4. Add vintage dictionary page piece. Ink with distress ink.

5. Cut out and add photo.

6. Add metal and ephemera (ticket, grungeboard, metal flower, brad, word tab, decorative head pin, vintage button) to complete.

Explosion Box Tutorial

Here’s a simple tutorial I’d like to share, how to create your own explosion box.

Materials / Supplies needed:
3 or 4 double-sided Patterned Papers
Embellishments

Instructions:
1. Cut the PPs to size:
- 9"x9” - 1 no.
- 7.5”x7.5” – 1 no.
- 6”x6” – 1 no.
- 6”x6” – 1 no. for the lid

2. Score lines on the PPs to create 9 squares.
a)9”x9” – Score at 3” intervals

b)7.5”x7.5” – Score at 2.5” intervals

c)6”x6” – Score at 2” intervals

3. Cut the 4 corner squares from all 3 PPs to form t-shaped PPs.

4. To create the lid, score lines at 1.5” intervals. Fold the 4 corner squares to create a diagonal fold on them.

5. Add tape glue to corner triangles to create the lid.

6. Here’s how the lid looks when completed.

7. Apply glue to the back of the centre square of the smallest t-shaped PP to the centre square of the medium t-shaped PP to adhere them together. Adhere the centre square of the medium t-shaped PP to the centre square of the large t-shaped PP. Here’s how it should looks when all the pages are adhered together.

8. Fold up the pages to form the sides of the box and fit the lid over them. Here’s the finished explosion box, embellish with photos and other embellishments as desired!!

Hi, I'm Cynthia Lloréns from Brazil, a mother of 3 wonderful children aged quite different. Sergio, 23, Isabella, 15, and Marcella, 3, married to Marcelo, a wonderful husband.

I am a lawyer by profession, but I love food, and I'm committed to my company which is a buffet parties for weddings and anniversaries, because I love cooking,and have been scrapping for the past two years and am totally hooked. I love felt, chipboard, ribbon, and patterned paper to name a few. I do volunteer work with children suffering from cancer, teaching scrapbooking for the past year. It is often a thankless job but I really believe that God has put each child in my life and I in theirs for a reason.

I am scrapping, reading about scrapping, shopping for scrap supplies, or talking about scrapping. I love everything about it. And when I am not scrapping I like to read, watch scary movies, reality tv, and spend time with family and friends. I am so excited to be a part of the Artz de Scrap!

Mini Toilet Paper Tube Album Tutorial

Materials / Supplies needed:
6 rolls of toilet paper
Patterned Papers
Embellishments
Double-sided Tape
Hole puncher
Metal rings

Instructions:
1. Fold the roll as follows

2. Place double-sided tape at ends.

3. Place the third strip of double sided tape as in the photo below.

4. Paste the patterned paper and trim the edges.

5. It should look like this.

6. You can layer plain papers with printed patterned papers on the toilet paper tubes.

7. Punch two holes on the left and paste that does not come loose

8. With the fancy scissors, cut a rectangle of 4 x 5 on plain paper and adhere it to the toilet paper tube.

9. Embellish the toilet paper tubes and ring them up to form a mini album! Here are the finished products:

Hello art lovers! My name is Trina Kison and I am a married 25 year old stay-at-home mother to 2 wonderful boyz. I have been an artsy creative gal ever since I was a young child. Art is a passion of mine and I love just sitting down in my craft room and being creative. 12 x 12 layouts, mini albums, cards, tags, canvas, paints, spray inks, mixed media, altered items.... the list could go on and on with all the stuff I love to create & use. Alcohol Inked Tiles Tutorial

Materials / Supplies needed:
Mod Podge
Alcohol Inks
Blending Tool/ Dauber
Paint Brush
Tiles (Can be purchased at your local hardware store)
Various Stamps
Archival Jet Black Ink

Instructions:
1. Gather all your tools together to create these Altered Tiles.

2. Grab your clean/ dry tile.

3. Grab a few alcohol inks in your favorite colors and use your blending tool/ dauber to mix the colors all around the tile.

4. After you get the colors to how you like, grab some stamps and Archival Jet Black Ink and start randomly stamping on the tile.Set it aside to dry and start on a new tile.

5. With your new tile, start alcohol inking it up as well with different colors to create a new background.

6. Once you got the colors on your tile to how you like, grab more stamps and start randomly stamping on the tile.Set it aside and start creating more tiles if you wish to make more.Try to create different colors and play around with the alcohol inks....just have fun!

7. After you have altered all of your Tiles, grab your Mod Podge & paint brush and start painting the Mod Podge over your Tiles.Set it aside to dry.

8. Once your Tiles are dry, they are done! And they are ready to be given to a family member, a friend, to use as a coaster or just as a home decor element.

Finished Products: The Alcohol Inked Tiles make a great gift!

I am cabbie lopez and I am a stay at home mom to 4 boys. I started scrapbooking 4 years ago but ever since I was a kid, the world of arts has already placed a special tag in my heart. Aside from doing layouts, I also alter things, do minibooks, cards, atcs and love to experiment with different techniques. I am also a design team member for different sites and a staff contributor for scrapbook news and review online magazine. My style can be flexible but i am more into the shabby, eclectic and vintage edge. scrapbooking has opened a lot of possibilities for me because its not only about doing and creating, but its also about attaining friendships both online and local which up to this present time holds a very dear place in my life.

Note Holder Tutorial

Materials / Supplies needed:
For the outer cover ( cardstock ) : 3 ½ x 7 inches
For the inner holder ( pattern paper ): 6 ½ x 7 inches
Scor‐it or any scorer
Embellishments/ die cuts
Ribbon
Double-sided tape

Instructions:
1. Prepare your papers.

2. Score the cardstock at 3 ½ and 4 ¼.

3. Fold the scored area.

4. Score the pattern paper with the shortest side on the upper portion, at ½ inch and at 3 ½.

5. Fold the scored ½ inch area and fold the remaining scored area just enough to close.

6. Adhere double sided tape on the ½ inch area.

7. Fold over so that the folds appose each other.

8. Place the folded pattern paper horizontally ( the adhered part facing you) and score at 3 ½ and 4 ½. This will create a 1 inch space on the middle. Fold it.

9. Adhere double sided tape on the 1 inch space in the center.

10. Adhere the folded pattern paper to the cardstock. Be sure to check if it is centered.

11. Use puncher for the outer edges.

FINISHED PRODUCT : you can add embellishments like diecuts or chipboards. Tie the note holder with ribbon.

I'm a 46 year old Stay At Home Mom. I live in Round Rock, Texas with my husband of 8 years and our kids, a son, 6, and step daughter, 11. I retired from 17 years of government service to stay home and raise my children. I have been involved in arts and crafts since I was a child. More recently I owned a faux painting and home décor business and an online scrapbook store. I became involved in scrapbooking and mixed media about five years ago. I love papercrafts, altered arts and mixed media. I teach classes at local scrapbook stores, retreat centers and online on a variety of topics from basic scrapbooking to complex technique heavy altered art and mixed media projects. I also instruct students to use tools like Purple Cows Trimmers and Zutter Bind It All and DreamKuts. My scrappy style is eclectic, at best! Some days my pages are neat and simple.....others, I throw on everything I can get my hands on. I have a special love of distressed items and ephemera.

Altered Ceiling Tile Tutorial

I am drawn to flea markets, garage sales and antique malls like a moth to a flame. You never know what you might find. So, needless to say, I've accumulated a lot of interesting stuff. For this project, I decided to put my stash to use. Since the majority of what I use is vintage, what you use may not be the same. My supply list is enclosed simply as a guide.

Materials / Supplies needed:
Tools:
Purple Cows 1060 Trimmer
Paint Brushes
Scissors
Crop-a-dile
Sizzix and Flower dies

Supplies:
Vintage: ceiling tile, Christmas ornament, sheet music, book pages, jewelry, ribbon, lace, beaded pieces
Prima: flowers, center kisses (crystals), Petite Fleur vines, chipboard alphas
Tattered Angels: Chipboard, glimmer mist
Ranger: Distress Inks, Glossy Accents, Liquid Pearls
Plaid: glitter (clear), Mod Podge

Instructions:
1. Decide what orientation your wall hanging will have: landscape or portrait. I chose portrait for mine.

2. Mod Podge book pages and sheet music pieces randomly over the ceiling tile. I laid mine out to highlight the aged paint still on the tile as well as the raw tin and rusted surfaces.

3. Cover the chipboard alphas with glossy accents and cover in glitter. Let dry. Shake off excess when dry. Spray with glimmer mist and let dry.

4. Use distress ink to highlight chipboard shape(s) and mod podged paper on ceiling tile. Let dry. Add detail to chipboard shape(s) with liquid pearls.

5. Use Sizzix to punch out numerous flower shapes of various sizes. Layer to add depth to your flowers, crumple some also.

6. Decorate outer edges of tile with flowers, vines, chipboard shape(s), jewelry, ribbon, lace, beaded pieces and crystals.

7. Add word down the middle of tile.

8. Punch holes, string ribbon to hang.

Hello, I am Laurence. Mother of 2 children from 5 & 7. They are both my favourite subject on my scrapbooking layouts. I am passionate about all arts and crafts and love Stamping.. I bought my first stamp 7 years ago to make cards at the birth of my daughter and now I have to admit that I am really addicted to stamping!!!
I love trying out and using different techniques and would describe my style as mixed-media . I also made and traded ATCs for a long time and have quite a large collection now. I joined in January the Design Team of InfinimentScrap, a new Company that designs its own rubber stamps.

Thanks Artz de Scrap for inviting me to be your Inspirational Scrapper for February 2010. I am really honored and hope my tutorial will inspire you.

Altered Coat Hanger Tutorial

Materials / Supplies needed:
coat or trouser hanger

gesso
paint brush
acrylic paints of different colours
newspaper
glue (wallpaper glue or pva glue)
fabrics
ribbons
stamps
embellishments (buttons, flowers, etc)

Instructions:
1. Decide where to position your clips.
a) If you want to use your hanger to display your scrapbooking pages, check the size. You may also use your 2 clips separately to display two small pages.
b)In either case, adjust the position of your clips before the next stage as you won't be able to move them after altering.

2. Apply a coat of gesso over your coat/trouser hanger. I used a plastic hanger and this first coat is necessary in order to adhere your paper to the surface of the plastic.

3. When the gesso is dried you can cut or tear strips of newspaper and glue them all over your hanger. Allow to dry.

4. I applied a coat of acrylic paint in 2 different colors and glued additional scraps of papers.

5. You can embellish your coat/trouser hanger with fabrics, ribbons, buttons, stamped images. I stamped "Limited Edition" (stamp by InfinimentScrap) on a piece of cardstock and adhered it on the front with double-sided tape. The "heads" (stamps by Zettiology) are also stamped on a piece of cardstock and attach on the back of my hanger.

6. Here’s the finished product!

I am happily married to my wonderful husband and I have a son who is a senior in high school. I was first introduced to scrap-booking by my sister in 2004. It became a hobby, and later I joined the challenges in 2008. I got further involved and created more and my hobby evolved to an addiction (that‘s what my husband says!). Beverage Can Magnetic Flower Tutorial

Materials / Supplies needed:
Beverage cans
Acrylic paints ( your desired colors)
Craft knife
Variety of decorative scissors
Glue gun
Paint brushes
Patterned papers (scraps)
Cardstocks (scraps)
Embellishments ( your choice of Themes)
Magnetic sheet (4x6)
Ruler

Step-by-step instructions:
1. Clean the two empty beverage cans with warm water, rinse and dry. Mark one half of the can with masking tape around the can’s circumference and cut using craft knife.

2. Measure the can’s circumference and then decide how many petals you want. Depending on the size of the beverage can’s circumference, will determine how many petals you may decide on. For instance, the can’s circumference I used was 8 inches. Therefore, I use 1” for each petal, resulting in a total of eight petals. Using scissors cut eight evenly space lines from the top edge to the bottom of the can.

3. Press the center of the can with your two fingers and carefully bend the cut petals.

4. Trim each petal with decorative scissors.

5. Paint both sides of the petals, stamen or center of the flower and the base. Allow to dry.

6. Cut and cover the base with a piece of magnetic sheet board and then, adhere using a glue gun.

7. Using your choice of themes, embellish the stamen or center of the flower and secure same with glue gun.

8. Upon completion, one can decorate the refrigerator with one or more altered beverage can magnetic flowers, use to hold notes, daily schedules, reminders of things to do or use as a gifts.

Stuffed Trees Tutorial

Today we are going to make stuffed decorative trees for the holidays.
I made four trees but I’ll be giving you instructions for the two ways of making trees as seen here, then you can make as many as you desire!

Materials / Supplies needed:
Fabric and felt (Remnants and squares found in the clearance section are great!!)
Thread and embroidery floss or bakers twine
Thread spools or miniature clay pots for bases
Wood dowels or planters stakes
Polyfill for stuffing trees
Chenille or glittered pipe cleaners/stems
Embellishments of your choice, including, buttons, ribbons, extra fabric scraps, gems, etc!
Glitter
Adhesive
Hot glue gun (optional)
Sewing machine (optional)

Step-by-step instructions:
1. Paint clay pots , wooden thread spools or any other flat surface to help tree stand up. Paint plant stake or wood dowel halfway (other half will be inserted into stuffed tree.

2. To make Felt tree:
A. Take a piece of felt 8 1/2 x 11 and fold in half width wise. Roughly draw a triangle onto the felt and cut it out (this will give you two equal pieces /triangles for the tree bases).

B. I used a sewing machine but hand stitching works as well to sew two edges from the point down. For the base, leave approximately 1 cm open to insert the wood dowel/stake. Make sure to leave at least 1 1/2 cm edge all around stitching.

C. Once edges are sewn, add fiberfill to hole in pocket pillow. Smooth it around with your hand till it’s evenly distributed.

D. Secure edge / opening to fit around the dowel and insert dowel inside. Glue around the excess opening to fit dowel if needed using liquid glue / hot gun or stitch shut.

E. Use pinking shears or scissors to trim around the edges close to the stitching, leaving a very fine edge around the triangle. Decorate with embellishments of your choice and insert stick into thread spool or clay pot as seen here. Use hot glue or other method to make it stable. Your Felt tree is done! =)

3. If you choose to handstitch, that is fine too. Here is an example of another felt tree I made with a different stitch along the edge.

4. The next two trees I created uses fabric and are three dimensional, I used three layers instead of just two.
A. Cut three triangles of equal size out of fabric. Don't worry if the edges are rough or frayed as we will "decorate" them later. Cut another triangle of similar size or smaller and set it aside. We will use this for the bottom later on.

B. Begin to hand‐stitch the first two triangles together, leaving approximately 1 1/2 cm edge outside your stitch (wrong sides of fabric facing in).

C. When opened and finished it should look like this:

D. Sew third triangle to unstitched edge of center (second) triangle

to make this.

E. Then sew the unsewn edges together to form a tent as shown in picture here: Remember to sew 1 cm in.

F. Next stuff triangle tent with fiberfill till full and evenly distributed.

G. Take the fourth fabric triangle to cover bottom opening and attach it to the edges to the bottom of the tent as shown in picture here. Sew around the edges to shut and complete the stuffed tree.

H. After stitched and stuffed, groom your edges using sharp scissors or pinking shears as shown.

I. You may need to re‐shape the pillow, fluff up etc if necessary. Do this before decorating and inserting into base.

J. I then used scissors to clip the edges and roughed it up with my hands to give it a folksy frayed look.

K. Decorate your tree as desired. I used a hot glue gun on this tree to add metal snowflakes and little ribbons to the front of one side of the triangular tree. I twisted some small pieces of pipe cleaner to the top in order to adhere the opening on top shut. I added a paper punched star with glitter and gems to the top center of the tree.

The clay pot bases are turned upside down and painted blue. I also added a layer of diamond glaze and glass glitter to the pot.

Here is another version of a fabric tree:
I added buttons, gems, a flower and ribbon on the top. The tree is made the same way as the one pictured above.

There really is no wrong way to do this project. You can also do hearts or stars or any other shapes, use any colors or embellishments that you desire. The possibilities are endless and they are fun, and relatively easy to create!

Earring Carousel Tutorial

Materials / Supplies needed:
illustration board or any stiff board (approx. 30cm x 60 cm or 1ft x 2ft)
7 pcs. disposable bamboo chopsticks (or barbecue sticks)
empty ribbon spool with hole in the middle (piece of styrofoam with a hole in the middle)
old cd (to be used to stiffen and add weight to the base)
patterned papers
ribbons / laces
cord / crochet thread for sewing, plus a hairpin instead of a needle
glue
hanging earrings (those with hook attachments only)
optional: metal trimmings used for fancy jewellery

Step-by-step instructions:
1. Cut a big circle with a diameter of 20 cm using the stiff board. Cover with PP. Make a 1/8 pie cut. Cut a small circle with a diameter of 11 cm. Cover with PP. Cut another small circle of diameter 11 cm or smaller. The latter is a back-up circle to be used to stiffen the base if needed.

2. Punch holes along the left side of the big circle. Move the punched side towards the right side by at least 1''.

3. Trace the holes made, then punch them as well.

4. Sew the two edges together.

5. Trace finished cone on another stiff board and cut.

6. Cover with patterned paper then punch a hole on the traced circle. Push the chopstick through the hole.

7. Put glue on the sides of the circle on the stick, then stick this to the edge of the cone. This will look like an umbrella cone. Push the stick through the previously cut circle with hole at the other end of the stick.

8. Insert the open end of the stick through the empty ribbon spool. This is the framework of the carousel. Set aside.

9. Measure 6 panels of 4cm width x 13 cm height on a stiff board. Add 1.5cm to the height on top and at the bottom. Add another 1.5 on the width of the panel to serve as overlapping flap for gluing. Cut and score all lines. Cover other side with patterned paper.

10. Cut the edges to make triangles. Also punch 2 or 4 holes on each of the 6 panels. This is where the earrings will hang.

11. Fold the scored lines inward. This will make a hexagonal shape. Glue remaining flap behind one of the panels. For a more finished look, the patterned paper can be longer than the 6 panels and flap. When gluing, this extension goes on top of one of the panels. Punch holes on this extension base on where the previous holes are.
Fold the triangles inside.

12. Tape opposite triangles together. Do this to the bottom as well. This will hold the hexagonal shape together.

13. Punch a hole where the tapes meet on both ends using the pointed end of the scissors. Take out the stick from the cone and circle base, then insert through the taped top and bottom.

14. Insert top end through the cone and bottom end through the bottom circle.

Then stick the remaining end of the stick into the empty ribbon spool. DO NOT GLUE onto the ribbon spool. Make the whole carousel stand on a flat surface. The ribbon spool acts as a stand and as pivoting point. You can now turn the carousel.

NOTE: If the bottom circle on top of the ribbon spool is not stiff enough, you can glue an old cd underneath or another cardboard circle with a hole in the middle to make the bottom thicker and stiffer.

15. Cut 6 pieces of bamboo chopsticks into 13 cm lengths. Wrap with ribbon/s. Glue ends to prevent unravelling. Optional decorative metal can be attached at the ends of the sticks for interest.

Glue top and bottom ends of the sticks to the carousel near the corners of the hexagonal prism.

16. Embellish the carousel, then hang the earrings through the holes. You're done!

NOTE: Ceramic horses with holes for carousels can also be used on the bamboo sticks.

DO NOT GLUE the stick through the empty ribbon spool as this will prevent the carousel from turning.

Tic Tac Toe Game Box Tutorial

I’ve made an easy, useful and fun project for both kids and adults. It is a tic tac toe game box that you can put in your game room or your receiving room and your guests can play with it too! My husband and I actually played with it already. Hope you try this one out.

When you were kids, you probably played tic tac toe on a piece of paper by drawing two horizontal and vertical lines that cross each other to make a 9 square grid and writing X’s and O’s alternately. This is the traditional way of playing it. Using the same game mechanics, I just twisted it a bit by creating 3D X’s and O’s that aren’t actually letters but altered arts / objects just as long as you have two sets (5 pcs of each design) of objects. Now these 3D pieces actually go into a box that will be altered to show the square grids.

* Tic Tac Toe will be referred to as TTT for the rest of the contents of this document.

Materials / Supplies needed:
Square Box (any size of your choice depending on the TTT objects you will create)
Mask with 9 square grids (I used a coaster chipboard negative)
Stamp images for your TTT objects
Stamp images for the box design
10 bottle caps (plastic or metal)
Paints + Gesso
Dye Inks (e.g. TH Distress ink) / Solvent Inks (e.g. StazOn)
Grungeboard paper (chipboards may be used)
Stickles
Liquid Pearls
Embossing powder (colored and clear)
Embossing ink
Perfect Pearls
Heat Gun
Masks
Chipboard letters - X, O, X
Scissors
Paint brush
Double sided foam tape

Step-by-step instructions:
1. Altering the Box
a) Decide on what side of the box you want the square grids to be. I used the back of the top cover of the box. Paint the base with two coats of brown paint. Include the sides that are covered with the design. If you want a distressed look like me, I smeared the paint outside the four edges of the box. Let dry. Apply the same color on the inside of the box base.

b) Put non-permanent glue on the back side of the grid mask that will be used as the base board of the game and stick it to the dried and painted brown base (Step 1).

c) Mix 3 parts olive green paint with one part acrylic pearl medium to give the top coating a bit of shine. Paint over the mask (two coats) and let dry. Be careful to not dab too much paint because it can slip through the mask grids.

d) Stamp designs over the dried base board that coordinates to your TTT objects.

2) Creating the Tic Tac Toe Objects
a) Paint bottle caps with gesso. You don’t need two coats because the gesso will just serve as a base for your acrylic paint to sit on. Painting directly on the metal cap may result to chipping off over time. Let dry.

b) Paint the prepared bottle caps with desired acrylic color. Let dry.
*Do note that bottle caps were used as the base for the TTT objects for added dimension. If the thickness of the grunge paper or chipboard is a good enough dimension to you, you may skip these steps 1 & 2.

c) Choose the stamp design you want to use as the TTT objects (you will need two). I used a butterfly (Hero Arts) and a flower image (Basic Grey).

d) Stamp over the grunge paper and cut the shapes out.

e) You can use varying techniques on how to make the cut-out shape pop. Here’s what I did for both sets.
1. Emboss Resist - stamp the image using embossing ink and apply clear embossing powder. Heat emboss and paint with acrylic paint over the entire shape. Wipe with wet towel and apply perfect pearls on the body of the butterfly.

2. Liquid Pearl Glaze – stamp image using black solvent based ink (StazOn). Let dry and smudge over Lemon Yellow Liquid Pearl Glaze. Leave the body of the butterfly untouched to make the black ink color pop out.

3. Distress embossing - stamp image using peeled paint distress ink. Pour dried marigold distress embossing powder and heat emboss. Paint over un-inked area with distress ink mixed with water and apply stickles on some of the upper and bottom areas.

4. Stamping with Paint – spread paint thinly over your craft sheet and push the stamp image gently. Once the design is fully covered with paint, stamp on the grunge paper and let dry. Apply stickles over the unlinked areas.

5. Distress Inks & Stickles Glaze – stamp image using solvent based ink (StazOn). Apply distress inks over the image (two colors used for top and bottom). Glaze stickles over the entire image and apply 2 gemstone blings.

f) Attach 3D foam tape at the back of the altered images.

g) Stick on the painted bottle caps and your TTT object is completed.

h) Here’s the complete set of TTT objects.

3. Top of Box Design
a) I kept the design of the box and used that as the base color of the cover. I used a strip of mask as a border at the bottom of the box and used distress ink.

b) Form the words “want 2 play ?” using masks and apply distress inks in the entire cover using two different shades.

c) Attach painted and stamped X, O, X chipboards at the bottom.

Calendar Set Tutorial

Materials / Supplies needed:
Card stock or Pattern paper 5pcs
Ring 2pcs
Sticker or Rub-ons of numbers, months
Edge punch
Ink

Step-by-step instructions:
1. Cut open a mailbox, take the part that contains half of the top and half of the bottom together with the spine. There are 4 of this part for each mailbox, in this project we need 2. One for the standing part of the calendar which comes with months, the other one for the base where to put the date dices.

2. The measurement of the box is usually 13 x 13 inches, for easy measurement of paper, we need to measure 6 x 12 inches and cut the extra.

3. Use Sizzix die to make 2 dices. If you don’t have Sizzix, please follow the attached template. Then you can use sticky tape or just double-sided tape to assemble the dice, put on number stickers. For 31 days in a month, you need 1-6 for one dice and 1,2,0,7,8,9 for the other one.

4. Cut one 12 x 12 paper in half and cover the top part of the first box piece (the standing part). On this part, we will put ring later together with 12 months’ note sheet. You need to decide how big is your monthly note sheet then punch the hole. I used notebook from Creative Imagination which measures about 6 x 4. And on each of the note sheet, use rub on or sticker to label the 12 months. Punch two holes on each sheet, mark the whole on the standing board, also punch the whole.

5. Take out a cardstock or pattern paper, score lines at 2 inch, 2.5 inch, 8.5, 9 inch. You can use edge punch to punch an edge near 2 inch score line. This paper will cover the back of the standing part as well as to join the base part. So you need to use one of the monthly note sheet to mark the location to punch out the holes.

6. Now we need to join the standing part and the base. For the base, we only need the spine and half of the bottom part of the mail box, use the other half of the paper left from step 4 to cover the 6 x 12 inch part. Put glue on the spine part and stick the two spine parts together.

7. Take out the cardstock with the punched edge, we will use this to secure the standing part and the base, stick it part by part: first the top of the front, then the back, then lastly the bottom.

8. Use ink of your choice to ink all the edges.

9. Use two rings to secure on the monthly note sheet to the standing part, add on the dice. You now have a desk top calendar set.
